~ IN THE TASTE OF ALFRED EMMANUEL BEURDELEY (1847-1919)
BIG MONEY MAKER MAKING A SHOWCASE
ABOVE A CHEST AND UNDER A TUSCAN PEDIMENT
MASTERPIECE OF AN ART BRONZE MAKER
Parisian work of inspiration Louis XIV around 1875-1885.
Ebony wood, blackened wood, red tortoiseshell veneer
gilt brass fillets and rich decoration of chased and gilt bronzes.
H. 213 cm W. 106 cm D. 47 cm
The vast architectural pediment is entirely made of molded and gilded brass. It is curved, with lateral projections and three redents, two are on the shoulder and one in damping. The entablature has an antique entablature, metope, architrave, cyma, dentils and drip molding.
The moldings are with straight and inverted doucines
and reversed, right heel and reversed cavet.
The six jambs, one of which can be retracted when the large glass door opens, are adorned with Corinthian capitals, overmolded from master models.
This work of bronzier is precise, complex
and of excellent chiseling. The leafy basket includes laurel leaves, palms, tigelles, caulicole, crook, flowers and a spine decorated with ova.
The upper part of the cabinet is slightly recessed in the front and inlaid with large tortoiseshell plates in frames of molded brass fillets.
Under the belt, a frieze of chased and gilded bronze foliage separates the two elements. The lower part, forms a lockable chest on a flap decorated with a large bronze lion's head and its remains in the antique style. The contresocle is made of wood repainted in imitation of portor marble. The whole is in perfect condition and an internal light system has been recently installed.
Both interiors are entirely covered with black velvet.
