ABOUT :

While he was looking for a work table for his brother, a leatherworker, in the rooms of the Hôtel Drouot, a Bidjar gallery carpet caught his attention.

The world of carpets is not unknown to him.

Of Iranian origin, Mr. R. grew up surrounded by beautiful pieces, his uncle being a merchant and the first carpet importer in Paris since 1946.

His passion for the textile medium and his taste for the Collection were born from this.

He took part in the auction game and won this gallery for 500 francs.

Happy with his acquisition, he showed it to his uncle. The latter offered to sell it back to him, and in only one week managed to get him 8 times its original price.

Satisfied with this increase in value, the framework of his vocation is now knotted: he opens his gallery of Carpets & Tapestry in 1975 on Yves Toudic street in the 10e district of Paris.

A vocation that he will always share with his brother, and this since 1977.

The high point of his career was the sale of a high quality silk Tabriz carpet decorated with the "4 seasons" and with exceptional dimensions of 4m30 by 3m20, sold at the time for 1,100,000 francs by Master Guy Loudmer.

Mr. R. has however his preference. He cherishes above all the carpets known as "Mamelukes", "rarities of the High Period" still unknown on the market and with mysterious origins.

Never ceasing to learn from his purchases, Mr. R. acquires the most beautiful pieces that he sells to the most prestigious houses such as Sotheby's and Christie's, as well as to international dealers in France, America, England and Italy.
